Sabe Center Hotel Asuncion, Paraguay

We booked this hotel late the night we arrived into Asuncion. We hadn't booked any hotels ahead of time and ended up having to go to 4 different ones to get a room. By Paraguayan standards this one was very expensive at $70 a night, but it had been a 14 hour day that included traveling across Paraguay in a bus - we were both exhausted.

When we got up the next day, we determined that it was just about the nicest hotel either of us had every stayed in.

They nearly couldn't cram one more bit of marble, granite, brass or oriental rugs into the place.

This isn't one of those trick photos - this vase is nearly 8 feet tall.

Virtually all of the hotels in South America include a breakfast buffet but we never encountered one quite like this one.

View of Asuncion from our room.

Asuncion is situated on the Paraguay River which includes a large bay.

I know many of you were wondering how we managed to keep in touch via email and internet from a nearly 3rd world country. Well, we had to tough it out with these private offices reserved for hotel guests.
