Iguassu Falls, Brazil

This magnificent array of waterfalls is located in Southern Brasil in the state of Parana on the border between Argentina and Brasil. They stretch for 2.5 miles plunging 269 feet (82m) into Iguaçu River which makes them wider than Victoria, higher than Niagra, and more beautiful than either.

Numerous rocky and wooded islands on the edge of the escarpment over which the Iguaçu River plunges divide the falls into some 275 separate waterfalls or cataracts. The name of the falls comes from the Guarani Indian word meaning "great water." In 1986 Iguacu Falls were declared a Natural Heritage of Mankind by Unesco.

Notice the boats for a perspective on the size of these waterfalls.

The path to the falls is sort of precariously attached to the side of the canyon.

This a view of a catwalk which goes out into the center of the falls.

Another view of the catwalk.

Rain coats were for sale and advisable before going out onto the catwalk.

We obviously didn't take that advise and ended up soaked.

We did end up with some spectacular shots though.

As terrible as our local Brazilian airlines was (VASP Airlines - but that's another web page), they did do a loop around the falls on the way out.

Notice the catwalk from the Argentinian side.
